Artificial Reefs and Marine Ranching

Address: Zhuhai Wanshan Marine Development Experimental Zone

The ocean accounts for about 70% of the Earth's surface area and is the most important ecosystem in the world. However, over-exploitation, illegal fishing, and marine pollution are causing different degrees of damage to marine life spawning grounds and habitats, which in turn affects the proliferation of marine life and the development of marine fisheries.

Gree Real Estate is constantly examining and exploring beneficial marine economic development models. The construction of the large artificial reefs at Miaowan Island and the demonstration area of Wanshan National Marine Ranch will be carried out for marine life to rebuild their habitat and create a good environment for dwelling and reproduction.

Miaowan Large Artificial Reefs Demonstration Area

Miaowan Island is located in the Miaowan Coral Municipal Nature Reserve in Zhuhai City. It has white and soft coral beaches, a rich coral reef ecological community, and the nearby sea water has excellent water quality with visibility over 5 meters. It is one of the top ten most beautiful islands in Guangdong and it is called "China Maldives".

For Miaowan, Gree Real Estate has set forth from the perspective of protecting fishery resources and the ecological environment when commencing the construction of a large artificial reef demonstration area in Miaowan and undertaking the marine ecological conservation, protection and restoration of coral resources in the surrounding seas to promote coral growth in Miaowan Island and the surrounding waters, and promote the natural reproduction of sea products.

First Installation
3519 Artificial Fish Reefs

The total investment of the large artificial reef demonstration area in Miaowan Bay is 168 million RMB. 17,370 artificial fish reefs are planned to be installed in 12 square kilometers of sea near Miaowan Island in Zhuhai City. The project will be divided into two phases. The first phase of the project was completed in February 2018.

The first phase of the project has a total investment of 50 million RMB and 3,519 artificial reefs has been placed in a sea area of 4.73 square kilometers near Miaowan Island. After completion, 9 reef groups will be formed in the northwest side of Miaowan Island, each group consists of 391 reefs, arranged in a staggered formation to cover a 200mx200m area.

Lmprove Marine Ecology
Promote the Development of the Marine Economy

The completion of the large artificial reef demonstration area in Miaowan will form an artificial ecosystem in the reef area that is conducive to the attachment and dwelling of marine life, attracting all kinds of fish to the reef area to live and gather, providing a place for the marine life to breed, grow, feed and seek shelter, thus achieving the purpose of protecting the marine ecological environment, increasing fish population and increasing the catch.

At the same time, the construction of artificial reefs will have significant strategic significance and far-reaching historical significance for adjusting the structure of the marine industry, promoting the upgrading and optimization of the marine industry, promoting the development of tourism and related industries, and promoting a sustainable and healthy development of the marine economy.

Wanshan National Marine Ranch Demonstration Zone

In order to protect and restore the marine ecosystem, Gree Real Estate will construct the Wanshan National Marine Ranch Demonstration Zone in the Wanshan Sea area to carry out the cultivation and proliferation of exotic seafood delicacies, the proliferation of seaweed plants and the development of recreational fisheries, forming an artificial ecology conducive to the attachment and dwelling of various organisms, bringing about the restoration and proliferation of fishery resources.

Accelerate the Restoration of Fishery Resources
Rebuild Marine Habitats

The construction of marine ranches will effectively reconstruct the damaged spawning grounds and feeding grounds, and the endangered and rare wild animals will be effectively protected. The marine environment and biological resources in the sea area will be significantly improved, and the proportion of marine economic fish will increase, speeding up the recovery of fishery resources.

In addition, marine ranches will also help raise awareness of environmental protection and protection of fishery resources, contribute to the restructuring of fisheries and the conversion of fishermen to different professions.
