Xiangzhou Fishing Port is located on the right bank of the lower reaches of the Pearl River Estuary. It is connected to Yinkengjiao in the north and to the Lingjiaozui in the south. It is a key national general fishing port. In March 2016, in accordance with the related planning by the Zhuhai Municipal Government, the decision to relocate Xiangzhou Fishing Port to Hongwan Fishing Port was made.
In conjunction with the relocation of Xiangzhou Fishing Port and the construction of major cultural facilities such as “One Courtyard and Two Pavilions”, Gree Real Estate has started the comprehensive rectification and restoration of Xiangzhou Port, aiming to build it into the most attractive and humanistic cultural and artistic coast in the Pearl River Estuary Bay Area, providing the public with a richer and more diverse waterfront experience.

Centennial Fishing Port Memory of Zhuhai

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Qing government issued "New Policies" to encourage oversea Chinese businessmen to return to China for investments. Due to the convenient transportation and advantageous locale of Xiangzhou's location, the overseas Chinese businessmen Wu Yuzheng and Scholar Wang Yi discussed building a port here. Since the new port was located between Xiangshanchang and Jiuzhouyang, it was named “Xiangzhou Commercial Port”, a main city district of Zhuhai “Xiangzhou” originated from this. Zhuhai’s city building also began from here.

In order to develop the fishing industry and ensure the safety of fishing vessels, the Zhuhai County Government submitted a request to the Guangdong Provincial People's Government to build the Xiangzhou Fishing Port.

"Zhuhai Chronicles" indicated that the earliest Xiangzhou Fishing Port "had a sheltered area of 10 million square meters and can berth more than 2,000 fishing boats."

The fishing port facilities was improved rapidly. It soon became the “home” of Zhuhai's fishermen, and it gradually grew thick with the memories of this city.

A Beautiful Upgrade

In the 1990s, the problems of the fishing port area became more and more prominent. The wind sheltering conditions were poor, the waters were shallow, the stench was too strong, and the supporting facilities were incomplete. The supply capacity of ice and water was insufficient. At this time, someone came up with the suggestion for the relocation of the port area. Thus beginning a debate that lasted over 20 years around this topic.
In March 2016, in accordance with the related planning by the municipal government, the decision to relocate Xiangzhou Fishing Port to Hongwan Fishing Port was made. After the relocation, the existing area will be built into the New Xiangzhou Port with the Zhuhai Theatre as the visual core.

The comprehensive improvement project of xiangzhou harbor area is designed to be an arc-shaped embankment. The southern section is the Crescent Bridge, the western section is the tourist plank road, and the northern section connects to the passenger terminal in a series, just like a ring.

South Section: Crescent Bridge

 

The southern section of the project is connected to the Grand Theatre Reclamation area via the embankment, which is an important passageway for the public to access the Yeli Island and the Zhuhai Grand Theatre.

In the west section, facing the nearby Zhuhai Grand Theatre across the water, the Crescent Bridge Tourism Plank Road is under construction, providing leisure, entertainment and an environment for the public to get close to water.

North Section: Xiangzhou Port Passenger Terminal

 

The northern section of the embankment retains the passenger service terminals for traveling to the islands, and there are plans to build a love theme park to continue the romantic atmosphere of the Lover's Road.

South Section: Crescent Bridge

Crescent Bridge is part of the south embankment of the Xiangzhou Port Area Comprehensive Rectification and Restoration Project. The starting point is from the Xianlie Road intersection and the Chaoyang Road intersection, and end at the West Road intersection of Zhuhai Grand Theatre on Yeli Island. The bridge deck is Y-shaped, with a total length of 1.5 kilometers and width of 23 meters. It consists of a two-way motorway with a total of 3 lanes, and a spacious 8-meter wide two-way walkway for the public.

Tidal Traffic Lane

Move 750 Vehicles and 1600 People in 20 Minutes

 

In order to support the Zhuhai Grand Theatre, the roads on the south embankment of Xiangzhou Port was designed with 3 lanes, and the management of “tidal traffic lane” was implemented. Usually, only two lanes of “one entry and one exit” are implemented to the motor vehicles, and the other lane is reserved for bicycles. During performances, the "two in and one out" for entry and the "two out and one in" for exit are implemented. According to estimates, the “tidal traffic lane” can move 750 vehicles and 1,600 people in 20 minutes.

Completed 3 Months Ahead of Schedule

 

During the construction process of Crescent Bridge, new innovations for the construction method were constantly being created and new bridge construction processes were being adopted. On the basis of sufficient investigation and demonstration, the construction team adopted prefabricated reinforced concrete box girders and hollow slabs, which not only saved construction costs, but also greatly reduced the construction period, allowing the Crescent Bridge to be opened to traffic 3 months ahead of schedule, and provided the critical traffic assurance for the Zhuhai Grand Theatre.

 

West Section: Tourism Plank Road

The West Embankment Project is a 1336-meter Crescent Road tourist plank road, connecting Crescent Road West Embankment in the south and the Xiangzhou Port Passenger Terminal in the north, forming a circular curve with a radius of 627.7 meters, facing the nearby Zhuhai Grand Theatre across the water. The surface area for the tourist plank road will reach 24,500 square meters, providing leisure, entertainment and a space for the public to get close to water.

Three-Level Road System

 

In the future, the Crescent Bay Ring Road will form the framework of the Xiangzhou Port road system and form a three-level road system for motor vehicles, e-bikes and pedestrians. Among them, the Crescent Road Tourist Plank Road will consist of a 3-meter wide bicycle lane, a 5.5-meter wide dedicated e-bike sightseeing lane and a 10-meter wide sidewalk.

Sightseeing Tour Mode

 

According to the plan, Crescent Road will adopt an e-bike sightseeing mode to provide visitors with a tour of Xiangzhou Port. Water transportation will include fixed bus routes traveling to and fro over the water, sightsee tour routes and non-fixed routes for yachts and passenger liners for the high-end tourist market.
